Jones

We went to Jones the other night on 7th & Chestnut. It’s one of the cheaper Stephen Starr restaurants. They have classic white people food such as: Thanksgiving Dinner, meatloaf, chicken & waffles, chicken pot pie & chicken parm. I got the Thanksgiving Dinner, it was delicious but it was such a massive meal and I couldn’t finish everything. Then we got the colossal cookies n’ cream brownie sundae, which was amazing.

Hang overs, Ribena and Print.
You know what’s fun? Being hung over till 10PM and not remembering things. I don’t remember paying for the cab, why my arm is bruised, why is my knee/leg is all cut up, where I got this bump on my head, why I had the meanest text message on my phone when I woke up or how I even got home alive. I do remember feeling extremely pissed off by the end of the night and trying to fight/screaming in some dude’s face who was harassing me in the middle of the street. Apparently the bartender at B&B’s on Thursdays is known for getting people trashed, awesome.
This weekend has been looking up though. Last night was exactly what I needed, Lorrie loving, GT, pineapple pizza and billy madison. Wifey is coming home for good in a month! Tonight is gonna be a huge reunion with our favorite former Philly residents! Also, Jennie just called to tell me she found RIBENA for me which has made my year, I’ve been looking for that shit since I came back from London, SO STOKED! Next is my hunt for apple DemiSoda, which is basically carbonated apple juice.
Jennie and I were discussing print going out of business last night. You don’t even have to purchase books for school anymore because they’re available on most college’s library databases. Smaller magazines are all going digital and out of print. What does this mean for the future of books, copyrights, publishers and authors? Libraries are closing left and right. The books I’m currently reading, I downloaded them for free and I’m reading them on my iPhone. What is the future of print?
Every year, the pressure of going digital gets more intense. Digital is convenient and time saving. Jennie, who hates technology btw, made a good point. If someone has to pull a quote from a book, who wants to flip through however many pages to find it? It’s so much more convenient to go on google or whatever database and do a quick search & find.
Do I think print media will be obsolete? No fucking way, as great as technology is, there will always be people who want something physical, something they can hold, collect and treasure. As someone who enjoys book making/binding/structure, reading and writing, it bums me out to know that print is dying. And as much as I love gadgets, it will always be weird to see someone reading an ebook on their ebook reader.
It’s interesting to see print going digital and how it’s effecting people. I see subscribers getting upset about their favorite magazine going out of print and how the magazine is trying to convince them that digital is the future and how going digital will benefit the subscribers. It’s funny to see how “change” and “progress” that people deseparately asked for, scares the living shit out of them. Yes it’s sad to see print going digital but in the end, it’s cheaper, quickly and easily distributed, readily available and, believe it or not, progress. Alright I’m done talking about print and the benefits of technology for today, I’m leaving with the best advice I got from tv, “Live every week like it’s shark week.”
